Bora Bora has to be on most people's 'must visit before you die' lists. It's remoteness, beautiful scenery, clear blue water and tropical wilderness has attracted visitors for many years, whether on a backpacking trip around the world or on that dream honeymoon. For many, the idea of staying in a five star resort on stilts over the beautiful waters are the ultimate in relaxation but the remoteness comes at a cost, with Bora Bora flights often requiring a number of stops to get to paradise.
Part of French Polynesia's Leeward Islands, Bora Bora was born from a (now extinct) volcano. It's history, although small carries many wonderful stories since a group of Polynesian's settled on the island in 4AD. Despite having a settlement dating so far back, it wasn't until 1722 when the first European sighting of the island was made.
The best time of year to visit Bora Bora is in the months of June, July and August when rainfall is at its minimal and average temperatures are in the mid 20's.
Despite having such huge appeal, there are no direct flights to Bora Bora from the UK, however you can fly to French Polynesia with just one stopover which is in Los Angeles. Air New Zealand offer flights to Los Angeles with onward connections to Bora Bora with Air Tahiti Nui.
